Online workshops for Parents of children and young people with disabilities or additional needs living in Wales! (with and without a diagnosis). Funded by National Lottery Community Fund.
Often people with additional needs have different sensory perceptions of the world and they may find it difficult to process the information they receive through their senses. Understanding your child’s sensory profile (and your own) can help with developing approaches to reduce stress and promote wellbeing; supporting all areas of life, including behaviour, communication, sleep and learning.
Sensory needs are often the reason for anyone with developmental or neurological diversity to experience anxiety. It is also the reason they may respond differently to the world, in a way that may be problematic and pose risks to themselves or to the people around them.
This session looks at the impact of sensory needs on people with sensory needs, their families and the people who support them. It will look to provide an insight into the difficulties and some key strategies to support wellbeing.
This handicap session will give you an opportunity to:
• learn more about sensory processing and sensory integration
• reflect on your child’s sensory needs, and your own, and how these might change over time
• consider the impact of sensory needs on other family members/care givers and in different environments
• identify new approaches to supporting the challenges and opportunities of sensory issues
• explore how you can obtain further help and guidance if you need it
This workshop will be held on Zoom. We will give advice on how to install and use Zoom before the workshop is held, if you require this. If you prefer to not be visible or audible on screen that is fine by us.
