FAQ:
What are the benefits of this club? Teens will have fun, learn how to manage emotions, make friends, and become more self-aware and happier. Meditation is especially helpful in reducing test anxiety and social anxiety, which is amplified during puberty. In fact, I offer this to clients that I tutor and it's made a visible impact. It's also a useful coping mechanism for anger and other "negative" emotions. Ultimately, teens will learn healthy coping mechanisms that will impact other areas of their lives.
What ages is this for? This is for ages 12-18, up through high school. For ages 6-11, please check out the kids meditation club: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/kids-meditation-club-build-healthy-habits-community-joy-tickets-350799078487?aff=ebdsoporgprofile
Where will this take place? This version is online, which is especially convenient for busy parents, folks without transportation, the immunocompromised, non-local folks, and/or those with disabilities who might learn better online.
My kids are different ages; can they be in the same club? If you have more than one kid ages 12-18, they're welcome to be in the same club. Kids 11 and younger are welcome to join the other club.
My child doesn't work well in groups/social settings. Do you offer private sessions? Yes, I offer private 1:1 sessions tailored to your child. In-person is an option with a commute and gas fee for those interested.
How accessible is this for disabilities and such? I pay special mind to disabilities, goals and expectations, cultural nuances, and more. I have worked with individuals who have ADHD, are deaf/hard-of-hearing, visually impaired, autistic, and/or have IEP at school, so your kids will be in good hands. I also work with adults who have mental and physical disabilities, including those who've experienced a heart attack, stroke, injury, cancer, and more. This practice is also safe and helpful for pregnancy, diabetes, insomnia, back pain, high cholesterol, cancer recovery, chronic pain, stress, etc. I welcome you to email me if you have specific inquiries.
Who are you, and what is your experience/background? I'm a certified and licensed yoga teacher with over 15 years' experience and have worked with kids as young as six and adults late into retirement. I've received childcare training from the Pomona Valley Hospital and worked in art therapy + classroom settings as well. My current clients have trusted me with their kids for over three years and I'm happy to share testimonials upon request. I have also offered these services at organizations, nonprofits, and schools, including: Asian Mental Health Project, Gonzaga University, Crisis Support Services of Alameda County (affiliated with the National Suicide Hotline), Snapchat, Twitter, Salem College, and more.
Can I use insurance or my FSA/HSA on this? Depending on your plan, you may be able to use your FSA or HSA on yoga-related services. Check in with your personal situation for details on what's covered and what the process is like. This information is not legal or medical advice.
Is this religious? Everyone and anyone, regardless of faith or non-faith, is welcome to join. This has no religious affiliation.
Why do I have to sign up for monthly sessions instead of dropping in whenever I feel like it? Sticking to a routine time and date creates ease and reduces stress, especially for individuals with still-developing brains. Seeing the same faces regularly also makes it easier for people to make friends and build healthy connections within the community. Consistency and familiarity have scientifically been proven to provide nervous system regulation.
Who can I talk to if I have more questions, suggestions, or concerns? You may contact me directly via email at jessbeyondthebody@gmail.com. I respond quite promptly and am always happy to be messaged again if I have missed your initial outreach.
By signing up for this workshop, you agree to indemnify me from all liability, physical or otherwise. You are agreeing to be added to the email newsletter and may receive special discounts and free healthy lifestyle tips.
