Inspired by the experiences of the peer network Disability Elders of All Ages, JFA Purple Orange presents 20 workshops for Support Workers, carers and anyone interested in the support sector. Broadly titled as "What I Wish I Knew When I Was a Support Worker", these workshops have been crafted with input from people who receive support, those who provide it, and JFA Purple Orange's decades of experience.
In the first workshop we identified our personal values, their possible dark sides, and the key values needed in support workers. But what happens when what we say our values are doesn't match our behaviour? What are the consequences of this for individuals, service provider organisations and, ultimately, people with disability?
Hosted by Robbi Williams, CEO of JFA Purple Orange. Robbi has over 30 years’ experience working in disability, mental health and related human services in several countries, and including government, community and private sector roles. Robbi’s overall role is CEO of the Julia Farr group, a trio of social profit agencies working in systemic advocacy, social housing, assistive technology, and philanthropy, anchored on the values of personhood and Citizenhood. Robbi will return in August to provide an overview of the Model of Citizenhood Support.

20 handicap session or workshops are planned from May 2022 to November 2023. Presenters will include people with lived experience of disability and support, along with academics and sector leaders. Attendees from across Australia are welcome to join one or all of the workshops.
