Guided by members of the peer network Disability Elders of All Ages, JFA Purple Orange is undertaking a project focused on support workers in South Australia. A key component of the project involves initiating a community of practice for support workers.
The aims of the community of practice are to understand the benefits and challenges of the role, address issues of quality and practice, and consider how the support worker role can be further recognised as a skilled profession. New members are extremely welcome.
Please join us for the second community of practice disability events meeting on July 5th from 12:30pm. We will be hosting this meeting both in-person and online. We will be joined by members of peer networks who receive support to talk about their experiences and what they hope can change. We will then have a discussion about what support workers need more or less of in order to thrive and provide the very best support.
Support workers play a vital role in the support sectors. The introduction of the NDIS has raised new, and exacerbated old, challenges and opportunities. Taking the lived experiences of those who receive support, and the expertise of those who provide it, we hope to develop resources and stories for support recipients, support workers and service providers.
----------
A community of practice is a group of people with a common interest or problem, who seek to improve their understanding and practice through their interactions with one another. They bring together organisations and resources in order to improve practice across the whole industry. The topics for each session will be guided by experiences shared by people who receive support, and the members of the community of practice.
The Quality of Formal Supports project is developing workshops, resources and a community of practice. Find out more about the project and how to be involved on the JFA Purple Orange website.
