About this disability events
This 8 week handicap events course (Sept. 25- Nov. 26, 2023)will be useful to any paraprofessional working in an environment where you may interact and or support someone with a physical, intellectual and/or developmental disability. This course will explore the necessary technical knowledge to support social skills and integration, adaptation, self-dependence, health, safety, nutrition, recreation, leisure and communication for persons with disabilities. Topics covered include behavior management, functional skills, infection control, individual program planning and implementation and independent living.
This course satisfies requirements for Part II of the San Diego Regional Center’s Residential Specialist Certificate.
NOTE, this is an 8 week college-level course. Participants should expect to devote 4-10 hours per week to course work.
Mode of Instruction: Online; Virtual Classroom Meetings via ZOOM take place during the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 7th weeks of class.

Deborah Serban- Lawler: Since 1998, Debbie has been a motivational leader and instructor in the health, wellness and disability field in the state of California. Debbie is a Certified Personal Trainer, Rehabilitation Specialist, Fitness Nutrition Specialist and holds both Masters and Bachelors Degrees. She is an enthusiastic professional who consistently motivates, energizes and encourages confidence in her students and clients.. She is known for how she uniquely supports each person is works with. Debbie is an enthusiastic learner and loves to challenge herself and her clients of any age to grow, learn and improve their quality of life.
