Join us to celebrate the positive impact Public Contributors, staff and students make in Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) in the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health (FBMH).
This year’s celebration event titled 'From Buzz Words to Reality’ will explore the themes of intersectionality and inclusivity, and how together we can create an inclusive and supportive environment for all.
Taking place online using Zoom, it will be hosted by Professor Stephanie Snow, Faculty lead for Community Engagement and Involvement and Kay Gallacher, Public Contributor and FBMH PPIE Forum Co-chairs.
As well as discussing the importance of intersectionality and inclusivity, we will recognise the inspirational and outstanding commitment to PPIE that has made a positive difference, through the Faculty’s ‘Outstanding Contribution to PPIE’ awards. Please join us to celebrate with our winners who will be announced live at the event.
This event is for Public Contributors, Public/Patient Representatives, staff and students with an interest in PPIE, and connected with the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health.

What is the aim of the Celebration Event?
To celebrate the positive impact members of the public, staff and students make in PPIE in FBMH.
What is the theme of this year's event?
This year's event theme is intersectionality and inclusivity.
Intersectionality recognises not only differences between identities (such as racial, gender, and LGBT+ identities) but within these. For example, the experiences of women of colour are different to those of white women. It is important that we recognise overlapping identities and that everyone has their own unique experiences of marginalisation and oppression in order to be truly inclusive.
Inclusivity is the practice or policy of providing equal access to opportunities and resources for people who might otherwise be excluded or marginalized, such as those having physical or intellectual disabilities or belonging to other minority groups:
Why is the event taking place online now that Covid-19 restrictions have ended?
Based on feedback from staff and Public Contributors, we decided to continue hosting an online event this year due to the uncertainty around Covid-19 pandemic when we started planning the event in January.
