Course Content

In this short course, delegates will improve their understanding of the language used to describe groups of people, particularly in relation to Protected Characteristics like race, disability, religion and belief. We explore the consistent pattern whereby 'We judge ourselves by our intentions, we judge others by their impact'. The session also discusses how we can respond to unintended interpretations, confusion or offence by exploring the difference between the speaker's intention and the impact on the listener.

Who is the course for?

The training is intended for anyone who is interested in the changing language around identity and who wants to feel more confident in their use of group labels, and how to respond to unintended offence.

Note - most of the content of this course is also covered in our session entitled '3 mottos for equality, diversity & inclusion'. If you have already attended that session you are of course welcome to come for a refresher, just be advised there will be a lot of similarity!
