In this training participants will explore geek culture, identify five geek genres, and learn about their relevance to play therapy

About this event

Upon completion of this disability events  training, the individual is awarded one (1) APA/NBCC/ACE/APT CE Hour of Completion.

The play landscape of childhood has always included epic quests to vanquish the villain, brave heroes saving the day, and stories of resilience in the face of tragedy, and light driving out the dark! And nowhere do these themes and stories come to life more richly than in modern geek culture. As it turns out, geek therapy IS play therapy! In this training participants will explore geek culture, identify five geek genres, and learn about their relevance to the current play therapy landscape, including practical interventions to bring back to the therapy room today!

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will define Play Therapy and identify the 10 seminal play therapy theories and historically relevant approaches that guide play therapy practice

2. Participants will define geek culture and identify five geek genres and their relevance to the current play therapy landscape.

3. Participants will identify play therapy interventions that combine characters, themes, and/or narratives present in Geek Culture that harness the therapeutic power of play for supporting the mental health and well-being of children, adolescents, adults, and/or families.
