The training is designed to support schools to identify young carers within their communities, provide young carers with a voice, and develop a whole school approach to supporting their needs.
Kernow Young Carers aspire to reach all young carers living in Cornwall; and identify their needs at the earliest opportunity. This goes to ensure the impact of a caring role is reduced and families receive the support they need to thrive.
This training has been developed by Action For Children, commissioned by Together For Families and will be delivered by the Kernow Young Carers team. The training will cover understanding the needs of young carers, ways your school can support them to achieve their outcomes with effective policies to ensure the impact of the caring role is reduced.
Kernow Young Carers is part of Cornwall Carers Service.
The service was launched on 1st July 2021.
We are a partnership consisting of the following organisations:
Cornwall Rural Community Charity, Disability Cornwall, & Ios, Age Uk, Barnardo’s and Promas CIC.
Kernow Young Carers offers holiday activities across the county, targeted residential support, targeted, time limited 1:1 support and referral to external organisations and agencies to support young carers with counselling, mental health and wellbeing, peer support and social interaction.
We can also offer support with accessing grants to meet specific needs.
