Join us for a panel discussion about starting your own business!

About this event

This discussion topic is perfect for anyone that is interested in starting a business. Local entrepreneurs will share their stories and offer advice and guidance for starting a business. Panelists will talk about brainstorming and problem-solving, creating a business plan, marketing your business, common skills and personality traits of successful entrepreneurs and the most important steps to take when launching a new business.


This panel will consist of three panelists:


Nakeisha Geddes is the founder of Geddes Concept and Co-founder and Director of Beyond Services Choice Matters Inc. She has dedicated her time and experience, organizing empowerment conferences and mentoring workshops focused on mental wellness and business strategies. Nakeisha has worked with individuals with developmental disabilities for sixteen years. She is a strong advocate for fairness and equality. Nakeisha is also an award-winning author. She was the recipient of the 2018 Woman on Fire Author of the Year award. Her writing is inspired by her life experiences. Her mission in life is to spread a message that will "activate the best in you."


Jay Williams is the owner and operator of Kuture Cuts & Culture barber shop, located in Markham. With over two decades of experience in men's grooming, Jay's unique artistry and skill set him apart in the world of hair design. Jay has a background in music production, visual arts and regularly finds ways to weave his personal interests into online activities that support his connection with his community and clientele.


Joe Guagliani is a veteran of the premium incentive and promotional product industry, with over 20 years of experience. Joe founded The Marketing Equipment Company in July 2014. He has a true passion for design and building things that people love to use. His greatest joy is travelling around the world to find new and innovative ideas for his clients. Joe's goal is to make sure that his customers always receive memorable solutions that engage their target audience. The best thing about creating his own company and brand is doing what makes his "heart sing" ? all the while helping others along the way.


This discussion will be facilitated by Kadine Cooper, one of our Career Coaches in Residence. The program is generously supported by RBC Foundation with the support of several donors.
