The Newcastle Clinical Psychology Doctorate Programme are hosting a free one-day Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Conference via Zoom.

About this event

The Newcastle Clinical Psychology Doctorate are hosting a free one-day Equality, Diversity and Inclusion conference on Monday 25th July 2022. The conference will take place on Zoom and links will be shared with attendees closer to the date.

We would like to invite mental health staff working in psychological services throughout the region, as well as psychology staff, students from our local universities and mentees on our mentoring scheme for aspiring clinical psychologists from racially minoritised backgrounds, to attend the conference alongside our Trainees.

There is lots of excellent work happening within the North-East region to promote and embrace equality, diversity and inclusion within mental health settings. This conference will showcase some of this work to help highlight clinical practice, service development and research that has facilitated fairness of access to mental health provision, that respects, recognises and celebrates diversity, and that supports the development of mental health services or educational environments where everyone feels welcomed and valued.

A range of topics will be presented on the day, with invited talks from Shuranjeet Singh (Taraki, not for profit organisation) and Amanda Middleton (Systemic and Family Psychotherapist, TBC) regarding balancing theory and practice in community mental health and the use of systemic practice when working with the LGBTQI+ community, respectfully. Presentations will also focus on reflecting on the development of the course's anti-racism strategy, innovations in the delivery of peri-natal mental health services for women from racially minoritised groups, the development of OutREACH Cumbria for the LGBTQI+ community and anti-racism reflective groups in First Step, exploring the experiences of racially minoritised children and young people in the secure estate, promoting LGBTQI+ inclusion in male forensic learning disability services, how supervisors can facilitate inclusive placements for trainees with a disability or long-term health condition. A range of posters will also be presented to highlight social justice initiatives from around the region.

Unfortunately, there are only 150 spaces available for this disability  event. That means we have had to make the difficult decision to restrict spaces for this event to individuals working or studying in the region. If you register you will only be sent the Zoom link for the event if you have registered with an email address from a local university (e.g. Newcastle, Northumbria, Teeside, Durham, Sunderland) or local NHS Trust. Therefore, please register with your work or University email address, or the email address you use for our mentoring scheme, and cancel your ticket if it is no longer required.

You can also get your handicap parking placard online today!

Thank you.
