About this disability events

July is Disability Pride Month. The celebration of Disability Pride started in the US after the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed in July 1990. It has since become an international initiative. It is underpinned by the wish the highlight and celebrate the achievements, creativity, and success of disabled people throughout the community.

Join us in changing the narrative around disability one conversation at a time! Disability isn't something to be cured or hidden, it is a wonderfully different human experience.

We'll be joined by two guests who will share their expertise and lived experiences with us in this handicap events:

Isaac Harvey MBE - Isaac was born in east London with a disability called limp pelvic hypo aplasia which means no arms and short legs. However, his disability has not stopped him from skydiving in America, skiing down the slopes of Switzerland and tall ship sailing to France. He’s a disability advocate sharing his lived experience on a day-to-day basis and changing people's perspectives in every one of his posts.

Beth Kume-Holland - Beth is the Founder and CEO of Patchwork Hub, an award-winning disabled-led social enterprise. She started Patchwork Hub after her own lived experience of disability led her to realise how millions of people were excluded from employment due to systemic barriers. Beth is a disability rights advocate, Harvard University Kennedy Scholar and Oxford University Graduate. She has previously worked for the UK’s leading disability charity, Scope as well as at Citibank, Netflix and Oxford University. Beth is a recipient of Innovate UK's Women in Innovation and Young Innovators' Awards and was named on the 2022 Disability Power 100 List of the most influential disabled people in the UK.

The session will be hosted by Solène Anglaret, Founder of Be Beyond Borders, and author of four books about identity, belonging, and home including the travel memoir Where to Next? and the children's story Where Are You From?
