About this disability events
“Doesn’t Jesus heal everyone he meets?”
“Everything happens for a reason.”
“Disability is a tragic effect of the fall.”
“I’m not sure if we have any people with disabilities in our church.”
“Disability inclusion? Where do we even start?”
Such comments and questions come from countless well-meaning Christians today who genuinely desire their churches to become more welcoming of people with disabilities. The reason for this is because most Christians have never thought much about disability, and even less have set aside time to think theologically about disability in the church. This is what we plan to do at this month’s House of Learning, August 27, 5p–8p.
This handicap events will be our first step into the disability theology conversation as a community. We will hear from one of our pastors who happens to live with a profound yet mostly unseen disability. We will look to the scriptures to rediscover what God has to say about disabilities and their central place in his kingdom. The goal of the evening is to encourage one another to begin thinking theologically about disability. May this conversation be a doorway into a more vibrant and welcoming church life for all Christians in our church—disabled and enabled alike.
