Course description
This course will run over two sessions and will be facilitated online. It is highly recommended that you attend both sessions live so that you can get the most out of the course. The sessions will be recorded and available for a 30-day period following the final session so that you can review content or watch any sessions that you are unable to attend live. You will also receive two bonus webinars to assist you to better understand the NDIS and how to set up your dietetic service to celebrate people with disabilities.
The course will include interactive case studies, recommended readings, ideas for resources, the opportunity to ask questions and develop your individual learning plan. Further course details will be provided upon enrolment.

Course recordings
These will be made available to participants one month prior to the first live session and will be accessible for a 30-day period following the second live session. Please note, no extensions will be possible on access to the course resources after this time
Course objectives
This course is designed to:
• Enhance your confidence in working with people with disabilities
• Increase your knowledge on how to successfully set up and undertake a complex assessment with both adults and children with disabilities
• Improve your assessment skills and clinical judgement so that your interventions are designed to succeed
• Support you to understand further areas for learning and develop an individual learning plan so that you can thrive
Course content
Live session 1: Clinical dietetic assessment for oral eaters
• Detailed dietetic assessment (A, B, C, D approach) for oral eaters with disabilities
• Anthropometry: Growth, taking measurements, growth charts, formulas, equipment, tips
• Biochemistry: Specific considerations for people with disabilities, tips on attaining biochemistry
• Nutrition-Focused Physical Findings: Appetite, physical assessment, oral cavity considerations, pica, bowels, hydration
• Client history: Ecomaps, medications, social circumstances, restrictive practices, decision making
• Diet: Different ways to approach this for people with disabilities, tips on how to collect dietary information
• Indirect assessment: Z scores, estimating requirements in specific conditions
Live session 2: Clinical dietetic assessment for non-oral eaters and individuals with complex mealtime challenges and NDIS report writing workshop
• Additional assessment considerations for non-oral feeders and people with complex mealtime needs: Anthropometry, bowel management, tube site management, medications, dysphagia red flags, texture modified diets
• Enteral feeding consumables
• Person-centered goal setting based upon your assessment
• NDIS reporting: Tips and practice in writing functional reports
Bonus webinars
This course also provides access to two webinars which are designed to support your understanding of the NDIS, increase your knowledge of person-centered practice and practical advice on setting up or reviewing your service so that it is inclusive for all people that you work with.
