Confronting the Role of White Comfort in Therapy

This  disability events seminar invites therapists and allied professionals to interrogate their relationship with upholding white supremacy within their practice. We will:

+ Identify white defence mechanisms that lead to harm

+ Provide definitions of the white comfort complex

+ Understand its role in maintaining white supremacy

+ Touch upon internalised racism and anti-Blackness

+ Contextualise colonial history and its ties to therapy

+ Offer starting points to abolish white body supremacy

All trainee and qualified counsellors, therapists and allied professionals are welcome to join.

About Sage M Stephanou

I am the founder and a co-director of the Radical Therapist Network, clinical supervisor, experienced art therapist, educator, group facilitator, and trainer, with a specialism in intersectional, anti-oppressive therapeutic praxis.

My professional and community praxis is centred around collective care and liberation, transformative justice, power & oppression, disability, social and racial justice, anti-oppression, anti-capitalism and anti-racism.

This work is also informed by my lived experience as a queer, trans, mixed-heritage, working class and disabled person. My approach as an educator, facilitator and community organiser is explicitly tied with experiential, creative, socio-political/cultural and embodied group processes, and co-created healing and un/learning spaces.
