Hope GB hosts a CPD-accredited event outlining sensory processing and behaviours, as well as the importance of assessment and intervention.

About this event

Laurie Turuelo, an Occupational Therapist at Beechwood College, will be covering information surrounding our sensory systems, sensory behaviours and what these may look like and/or mean to the autistic individual. Laurie will also explore some information around the sensory profile assessment, highlighting the importance of intervention in diagnosis.

This event is a great opportunity to hear from and network with experts in the field, to gain a wealth of knowledge and to exchange fresh ideas.

This training will be suitable for professionals working in:

• Health and Social Care services

• Education services

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) will be available for this event.

The event will take place on the 12th of July from 13:00 – 15:00pm BST. There will be a one hour presentation given by Laurie Turuelo followed by half an hour for questions. (Extra time added to allow for any issues that we may encounter)

The disability events will take place on Zoom. Following confirmation of booking, you will receive a link to join the virtual conference.

We would like to kindly request that you could keep your microphones off during the presentation.

It is our intention to record the conference for future use.

If you require an invoice or purchase order reference, or if you would like to make a group booking, tickets are also available by contacting our office:

My name is Laurie Turuelo, I have been a qualified occupational therapist for almost two years now. I spent my first 18 months in a forensic mental health service working in low and medium secure units with both men and women. I currently work at Beechwood College; a college for people with Autism and learning disabilities. The college has education, residential and clinical services who use an MDT approach to support the students to learn a range of skills from communication to community access. As an occupational therapist in the college, my role is to provide therapeutic interventions to promote independence and skill building based on assessments of an individual’s function, skill and sensory profile. The college wide input includes fortnightly dog therapy sessions and a focus on after college groups to support student’s to develop positive relationships, work on team building and promote an active lifestyle. A person-centred approach is used to develop 1:1 sessions, which may include; sensory circuits, community integration, sensory based routine schedules, a graded approach to skill building and development of self-soothing skills.
