Objective: Participants will deepen their knowledge of. Joyful Together © and be able to apply specific strategies to their own clients.
Description: Participants will learn how to use Joyful Together © with people who have intellectual/ developmental disabilities to build resiliency and form stronger bonds amongst all members of the support/care team. Participants will engage in case discussion and application for their clients. Questions concerning challenging cases will be submitted in advance and the facilitator will work through interventions, applications and how to overcome challenges that the anonymous cases are presenting. Joyful Together © is the Institute of Family & Community Impact“™” and OhioGuidestone’s way to tackle the growing issue of toxic stress. It is based on easy-to-use activities that strengthen relationships between adults and children. While Joyful Together© began as a model for parent children relationships, The Institute of Family & Community Impact“™” has developed variations on the model that work for teachers, therapists, and all care-givers. So far, we have seen that Joyful Together© develops empathy and nurtures a sense of safety and security. In June of this year, OhioGuidestone’s research-based model, Joyful Together, was selected to participate in Harvard University’s Center on the Developing Child Innovation in Action Workshop in Cambridge, MA. The selection process was competitive, but Joyful Together’s selection is high praise of the research and development work OhioGuidestones has accomplished, and an affirmation that their efforts are among the strongest in the nation.
