We are delighted to welcome Nick Whittaker to join us at our July AEPA speaker event.
The event will include a presentation from Nick and time for Q&A. The event will be chaired by Stephen Betts, Chief Executive of Learn Sheffield.
Nick has over 30 years of teaching and leadership experience in secondary and special schools. He joined Learn Sheffield in the summer of 2021, having been an education HMI and Ofsted’s specialist adviser for SEND. Prior to working for Ofsted, Nick was the executive headteacher of two all-age special schools for children and young people with severe learning difficulties and complex needs. He also has experience as a senior local authority adviser and school improvement partner. Nick is a keen climber and mountaineer. He is the founding chair of Climbing for All, a Sheffield-based charity that provides outdoor and adventurous activities for children and young people with special needs and disabilities.
A Zoom link will be shared with attendees ahead of the conference.
AEPA Speaker Series
The AEPA (Area-based Education Partnerships Association) brings together over 30 local partnerships across England – school-led, place-based partnerships that have a focus on school improvement, particularly on issues relating to both excellence and equity. Our belief is that by working together in this way, local groups of schools can create change that cannot easily be tackled by autonomous schools working alone or in small groups. In many of these partnerships, schools have chosen to take collective responsibility for the quality of education - and so, for all children - in a local area. Each partnership acts as a local engine of improvement, bridging the divide between different types of schools so none is isolated, and providing a framework to enable all schools to work together. The AEPA is co-chaired by Baroness Estelle Morris and Christine Gilbert CBE.
