About this event

Details

Each learner is expected to do around 2 hours work weekly using the pre-recorded training videos (less than 1 hour each week) and a downloadable workbook which are accessed via a password protected webpage. There will be a hosted live event on Zoom once you have received the course content (15th September at 1pm or 7.30pm) and then 4 weeks later (13th October at 1pm or 7.30pm). These sessions provide an opportunity to ask questions, get assistance and meet other families delivering hands on postural care. There will be an additional two weeks to complete the workbook following the final live event.

Why?

Postural care training or disability event is most powerful in the hands of the people delivering it – the families of those with limited movement. We only get one body and yet people with complex disabilities don’t always get the ‘annual service’ afforded the equipment they use. Posture Positive report 2020 found training is a key aspect to developing resilient and robust 24-hour postural care for people with complex needs. The key ingredients to excellence in postural care comes in equipping the people delivering hands on care with knowledge and confidence.

Who?

This course is by families and for families. Whether you are a sibling, parent, husband or guardian supporting someone with complex needs, this training provides knowledge, skills and confidence to provide excellence in postural care.

What?

This course includes:

  • Why is postural care a big deal?
  • Spotting possible problems
  • Different people need different things
  • Postural care in the real world with real people

Testimonials

“I often feel powerless but Sarah and Rachel, you have made me feel powerful,”

“Listening to Rachel describing her experience of communication made me realise I needed to rethink my approach. I can't thank you enough for being so open and honest.”

Trainers

Rachel Wright (BSc) Founder of Born at the Right Time Rachel is author of The Skies I'm Under, finalist 2020 RCN Nursing Awards, trainer, qualified nurse and unqualified mum of three sons; one of whom has severe disabilities and life-limiting epilepsy. Occasionally she ties on her trainers and runs in a vague attempt to counteract her love for Salt ‘n Vinegar crisps, hummus and all things carbohydrate.

Sarah Clayton (BSc, PGCE) CEO Simple Stuff Works Sarah is passionate about all things postural care. Sounds dull but it turns out that her passion translates into highly contagious enthusiasm. She has developed a range of accredited training courses accessible to health, social care and education practitioners. Sarah has four children, works full-time and can regularly be found wearing her jumper inside out.
